Reviewing Our All-Weather Score For the Previous Year

Welcome to Wealth Enhancement & Preservation’s Market Minute, where we get to update you on everything that happened in the financial markets this week. My name is Darrin Cohen, and I am the CEO of Wealth E&P.
It was a rough week for the markets last week, with all three indices down significantly. The Dow was down about 4%, the S&P 500 down almost 5%, and then the NASDAQ was down almost 5.5%. I thought it would be a good chance for us to look and reflect on where the All-Weather score is, where it has been, and what we're looking at right now. At Wealth E&P, we aggregate about 60 to 80 indicators to come up with a score between 8 and 40 for the All-Weather score, and that tells us how aggressive or conservative we want to be at any time in our models.
Last year and as we headed into the first quarter of this year, we were pretty aggressive with market conditions looking really good. However, in the first quarter, you can see in the above chart that we declined down to moderate and even a moderate conservative stance. After a spike in April into moderate territory, we've been in a conservative position since May. We’ve stayed mostly on the sidelines as the market volatility has picked up.
