Covering the market volatility of last week with Wealth E&P

March 8, 2021

Welcome to Wealth Enhancement & Preservation’s Market Minute, where we get to update you on everything that happened in the markets last week.

It was an interesting market that finished with a bit of a schizophrenic view on Thursday and Friday. As you can see, both days started on a pretty strong down-tick but finished strong, especially where we saw the market’s upswing of over 750 points after hitting a bottom on Friday.

I think there are two opposing forces that are really driving this kind of schizophrenia. On one hand, you have all the extra cash in the system with another $1.9 trillion stimulus package coming through. All total, we will probably end up in the $6 trillion to $8 trillion range. With all that extra cash, it is really pushing markets up. On the other hand, that is causing concerns and fears around rising interest rates and inflation, which is causing that intra-day volatility and week-long volatility.

Our indicators are still overall very optimistic and positive, so we are on the aggressive side in our models. Our artificial intelligence model is still in Next-Generation Internet, and our Breakaway Stock Model added positions in Discovery Communications and Invesco last week, and our Economic Model switched from small-cap growth into a Technology ETF. We are very excited right now, but we will obviously be monitoring it very closely for both sides of that equation.
